Wells of Hope is a faith-based, community-driven organisation dedicated to supporting prisoners, their families, and especially children affected by parental incarceration. Founded in Uganda, the organisation works across East Africa to address the social and emotional challenges faced by vulnerable families impacted by the criminal justice system.
Colonel (Rtd) Charles Moturi is a retired military officer with over 27 years of service in the Kenya Armed Forces, bringing extensive experience in leadership, logistics, infrastructure development and strategic operations. He is a Graduate of the Command and General Staff College (USA), having undertaken advanced military studies at master’s level, and Advanced training in Transport and Logistics from the U.S. Army Transportation School (USA)”. Throughout his career, he served in key roles including Assistant Defence Attaché for Kenya in the USA and Canada and has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to operational excellence and institutional development.
Beyond his military service, Col. (Rtd.) Moturi has made contributions to the welfare of older persons through both veterans’ and community-based initiatives. He served for three years as Chairman of the Defence Forces Comrades Association (DEFOCA) Nairobi Branch, where he championed the welfare of aged and ailing veterans, and as a Governing Council Member of DEFOCA, actively participating in Annual General Meetings. He also served for three years as Chairman of the Golden Edge Ministry in his church, a fellowship for individuals aged 50 years and above. In his service at DEFOCA and his church, he helped address key concerns affecting older persons, including health, retirement planning, and possibilities for access to supportive living environments.
