Maputo, Mozambique

Professor Miguel Lázaro Marrengula is a distinguished social worker and sociocultural animator, and the visionary founder and CEO of the MSB Home Based Health Care Unit and the MSB Integrated Elderly Care Centre in Maputo, Mozambique. With a career rooted in advocacy, social justice, and human dignity, Professor Marrengula has dedicated his life to promoting the rights and well-being of older persons across Mozambique.

Through his pioneering work, he ensures that elderly individuals—especially those in vulnerable situations—have access to integrated health and social care services. His mission includes not only the provision of medical and psychosocial support but also legal and institutional assistance for elderly victims of violence and neglect, including those in conflict with the law.

Professor Marrengula’s multidisciplinary approach blends social work, art, health care, and community development, fostering an inclusive model of care that reaffirms the value of the elderly within society. Under his leadership, MSB has become a model for innovative, person-centered elderly care in southern Africa.

At the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) Conference, Professor Marrengula will present his paper entitled:
“Dynamics of Aging and Social Protection Perspective in Mozambique”,
and will propose a bold initiative:
“Advocacy and Social Intervention on Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Elders Based on the Combination of Social Work, Art, Health Care, and Community Development Approach.”

His work is a testament to the power of integrated, culturally grounded interventions in transforming the lives of older persons and shaping inclusive public policy.
